Bolków is an old town, historically connected with the imposing medieval castle built in the 13th century. The castle ruins are one of the oldest and most interesting defensive structures in Poland. The unique tower with a teardrop shape was the key defensive element of the stronghold. The edge of the tower looks southwards, toward the potential assault and the distinctive shape used to minimize the risk of being hit by cannonballs, which simply ricocheted. From the powerful round castle tower you can admire a wonderful panorama of the Kaczawskie Mountains area. Some say that the famous Amber Room was hidden in the castle, along with other treasures, so the castle is definitely worth seeing. Modern knights like the place too and they gather at the castle several times a year during the most prestigious chivalrous tournaments in Poland. Inside the castle there is also a museum. Equally interesting is the town square in Bolków. Along its northern frontage stand tenant houses with arcades, which date back to the 17th and 18th century (and were rebuilt in the 19th and 20th century). The surface of the square is sloping, making the centre of the town the only one of its kind
